How Referrals Work
The Genesis Writer referral program is simple: share your referral link with a friend, they sign up and subscribe, and they get a discount on their first month. It's a straightforward way to help someone discover the platform while saving them money.
The flow looks like this:
- You copy your unique referral link or code from your account.
- Your friend clicks the link and creates a Genesis Writer account.
- When they subscribe to any paid plan, they receive a 20% discount on their first month.
The referral tracking is handled automatically. When someone visits Genesis Writer through your referral link, the system records the attribution. They don't need to enter a code manually — the discount applies at checkout.
What Referred Users Get
When someone signs up through your referral link and subscribes, they receive:
- 20% off their first month on any paid plan. This discount applies to Writer ($19.99 → $15.99), Creator ($29.99 → $23.99), or Professional ($49.99 → $39.99).
The discount is applied automatically at checkout when the referral attribution is present. After the first month, their subscription continues at the standard price.
Finding Your Referral Link
Your referral link is available from the Settings page. Look for the referral section, which displays your unique link and code.
The referral link follows this format:
https://genesiswriter.ai/ref/your-code
Your referral code is automatically generated when you create your account. It's a short, unique string tied to your user ID.
Sharing Your Link
You can share your referral link anywhere:
- Send it directly to a friend via email, text, or DM.
- Post it in writing communities, NaNoWriMo groups, or author forums.
- Include it in blog posts or social media.
- Share it in writing Discord servers or Slack communities.
When someone clicks your link, a referral cookie is set in their browser. If they sign up and subscribe later (even if they close the browser and come back), the attribution is preserved and the discount still applies.
One-Time Use
The referral discount is a one-time, global benefit. Here's what that means:
- Each referred user can only use the 20% discount once — on their very first subscription month.
- Once the discount has been applied, it's consumed permanently. It doesn't reset or renew.
- If the referred user cancels and re-subscribes later, the discount does not apply again. It's strictly a first-month benefit.
Referral vs. Affiliate Program
Genesis Writer has two separate programs for spreading the word, and they serve different purposes:
| Feature | Referral Program | Affiliate Program |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Any user who wants to share with friends | Content creators, bloggers, influencers |
| What the referrer gets | The satisfaction of helping a friend save money | Cash commissions on referred subscriptions |
| What the referred user gets | 20% off first month | Varies by affiliate link/coupon |
| Signup required | No — everyone gets a referral link automatically | Yes — must apply and be approved |
| Earnings | No monetary earnings | Recurring commissions via Stripe Connect |
The referral program is casual and effortless — perfect for telling a writer friend about Genesis Writer. The affiliate program is a more formal partnership for people who want to actively promote the platform and earn from it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I refer someone who already has an account?
The referral attribution must happen before or during account creation. If someone already has a Genesis Writer account, the referral link won't retroactively apply a discount.
Is there a limit to how many people I can refer?
No. You can share your referral link with as many people as you want. Each new user who signs up through your link gets their own 20% first-month discount.
Does the referral work with annual plans?
Genesis Writer currently offers monthly plans only. The 20% discount applies to the first month's charge.
Can I use my own referral link?
No. Referral links are tied to your account. You can't use your own referral code to get a discount on your own subscription. The system detects and prevents self-referrals.
