Goals & Streaks
Set a daily word goal and build a writing streak.
Last updated June 2026
Overview
Two small tools do most of the work of building a writing habit: a daily word goal to aim for, and a streak that rewards you for showing up day after day. Both live in the Writing Calendar.
Your Daily Word Goal
Set a target for how many words you want to write each day. Choose a preset — 250, 500, 1,000, 1,500, or 2,000 — or enter your own custom number. The default is 500 words a day.
A progress ring fills as you write toward the target, and the day is marked as met once you reach it. Your goal counts the words you write — AI-generated words don't count toward it, so the goal always reflects your own effort.
Writing Streaks
Every day you add words to a draft extends your streak. Genesis Writer tracks two numbers:
- Current streak — how many days in a row you've written.
- Best streak — your longest run ever, kept as a personal record.
Miss a day and the current streak resets to zero — but your best streak is always remembered, so a slip never erases your record. A flame badge shows your streak and lights up while it's active.
Where to Find Them
Open the Writing Calendar from the calendar icon in the top bar. Set or change your goal there, and your streak badge appears in the calendar's header alongside today's progress ring.
Good to Know
- Goals and streaks are global. You have one daily target and one streak across all your projects — not a separate goal per book.
- They're personal, not competitive. Nothing is shared or published; this is just for you.
